eLTER SPF Webinar: Gender, diversity, equity and inclusion

In celebration of the International Women’s Day 2024 campaign theme "Inspire Inclusion", this webinar will focus on eLTER's activities related to gender equality and more broadly focus on diversity, equity and inclusion in science across Europe.

Dr. Rebecca Barnes, an AAAS Science Technology Policy Fellow working with the U.S. National Science Foundation and the Belmont Forum, will give a presentation.

As ecosystem and critical zone scientists we regularly quantify the “boxes” and “arrows” of the natural world, often by using long-term records and/or publicly available data. These records have metadata attached, providing information about how the records were collected, including the time and date of initial collection, any data manipulation, quality control and quality assurance parameters, and reasons for missing data. All this information is included in the data management plan that accompanies research proposals to most funding agencies. We understand why the quality of the data is integral to doing good science. Why don’t all proposals require a people management plan?

This webinar will give you insights into the barriers of diversifying ecosystem, earth, and environmental sciences as well as steps you can take as an individual, field station, or network to make your spaces more accessible, welcoming, and just.
