2 Calls for Topic Centre Open

eLTER Host Organisations Selection

For the Central Services of the distributed eLTER RI, host organisations will be selected in a competitive way based upon this call for applications.

eLTER will be a distributed Research Infrastructure (RI). Its Central Services comprise various structural elements, namely the Head Office including the Service Portal and the Topic Centres. All these entities will be hosted by various institutions or consortia of institutions across Europe. These call pages contain all resources needed to prepare and submit an application.

eLTER Host Selection Process

The concept of the eLTER Host Selection process was approved by the eLTER Interim Council. This concept is the basis for the current application process from issuing the call until initiating first distributed RI elements.

The eLTER Technical Host Selection Team was set up within the eLTER PPP (preparatory phase project). The team will organise the logistic and administrative aspects of the calls.

The Host Evaluation Committee was nominated by the eLTER IC. This Committee consists of high-level scientists external to the eLTER PPP who will evaluate the applications and articulate recommendations to the eLTER IC.

The eLTER concepts and (technical) specifications of the eLTER RI distributed elements relevant for the particular call were completed by the respective project teams.

Calls for host applications are being issued in several packages with a deadline of two months each.

The Applications will be checked for eligibility by the eLTER Host Selection Team and thereafter evaluated by the eLTER Host Evaluation Committee.

During the evaluation, a hearing will be conducted between the Committee and the Host applicants.

After finalising the evaluations, Host institutions will be suggested to and approved by the eLTER IC.

Finally, the first distributed RI elements implementation will start as a collaborative effort between the selected Host organisations and the eLTER coordination.

Carefully study the Technical Documents which contain the requirements the applied for entity must fulfil.
Acquaint yourself with the pertinent background documents regarding the eLTER RI development and refer to them in your application where appropriate.

How do you generally see the organisation of a Topic Centre: do you have one institute that is responsible of the TC, and participants? Or are all participating institutes responsible?

The organisation of the Topic Centre is the responsibility of the Topic Centre Consortium, and all constellations are conceivable. One option is that a single institution acts as the lead of the Topic Centre and hosts it, while all other partners provide and deliver their respective services. Alternatively, responsibility may be shared between two or more co-hosts. The chosen arrangement must be defined in the Consortium Agreement.
Where can I find the letter templates for the Letter of Intent (LoI) and Letter of Support (LoS)?

Both templates, along with all other Letter of Endorsements are contained in the Host Application Document that is available on the "How to apply" page
