Mission

eLTER facilitates high impact research and catalyses new insights about the compounded impacts of a range of factors. It addresses existing and emerging environmental challenges on a variety of ecosystems and socio-ecological systems such as climate change, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, pollution, and unsustainable resource use.

Strategic goals

eLTER provides researchers with access to over 200 sites across Europe and biogeographical regions, establishing and offering harmonized and standardized data, services and training useful to citizens and experts in their joint efforts to find sustainable solutions to the Grand Societal Challenges.

Constructing the eLTER Research Infrastructure

eLTER RI was put on the priority list of European Research Infrastructures (ESFRI Roadmap).

eLTER´s development is driven by the needs of the European LTER Community among other users. It capitalises on the site network of LTER-Europe.

Several projects support the implementation of initial services and the physical network design.

We field a variety of tools and services that could be of use to researchers, students and policymakers such as the Dynamic Ecological Information System (DEIMS) that provides information from 1211 sites worldwide.
