WATER4All Launches Questionnaire to Map Freshwater Infrastructures and Identify Service Gaps

13 July 2025

The Water4All Partnership – Water Security for the Planet, a major co-funded initiative under the EU Horizon Europe programme, is calling on administrators of freshwater-related Research Infrastructures (RIs) and Observatories (Os) to take part in a new questionnaire aimed at improving the visibility and integration of existing services and structures across Europe and beyond.

Water4All is a strategic funding programme supporting scientific research to address urgent water-related challenges, particularly in the context of climate change, sustainable development, and innovation. With approximately 90 partners worldwide, the partnership seeks to strengthen water security, contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and enhance the EU's competitiveness and growth.

As part of its ongoing efforts to reinforce links with policy, RIs, and Observatories, Water4All is upgrading its online platform. The enhanced, tree-structured format will enable users to better visualize the interconnections among RIs/Os, their links to networks (such as ERICs and eLTER), and their alignment with national and EU water policies.

The newly launched questionnaire is a key step toward mapping all active infrastructures and their service profiles. It is aimed at administrators and representatives of freshwater-related RIs and Os who wish to be included in the platform and become part of a growing, interconnected knowledge base.

At the end of the questionnaire, participants will also find an optional, anonymous survey designed to support the Water4All Needs and Gaps Analysis. This section focuses on the experiences and challenges of data and service providers, and while not mandatory, the responses will be instrumental in informing statistical analyses and shaping evidence-based recommendations submitted to the EU. The information will remain confidential and will not be published individually.

“Your contribution is vital to ensuring that this platform reflects the full landscape of freshwater infrastructures and supports effective, collaborative solutions to the water challenges we face today,” the Water4All team notes.
