Postdoc and PhD positions in the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at PSI
5 January 2022
The Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry at PSI currently offers multiple open positions on experimental aerosol research.
They are:
PhD position on aviation emissions at airports (https://www.psi.ch/en/pa/job-opportunities/49270-phd-student):
- Perform experimental campaigns at Zurich airport using a wide range of aerosol instrumentation (Neutral cluster and Air Ion Spectrometer, particle size spectrometers and chemical mass spectrometers)
- Statistical analysis and interpretation of complex and large data sets resulting from these measurement campaigns
- Collaboration with internal and external project team members
- Write and contribute to high quality peer-reviewed publications on gaseous and particulate air pollution from aviation
- PhD thesis at ETH Zurich, Switzerland
PhD position on in-situ aerosol polarimetry (https://www.psi.ch/en/pa/job-opportunities/48823-phd-student):
- Perform laboratory and field experiments to determine phase functions and aerosol physical properties of well constrained and more complex atmospheric aerosols
- Adapt existing inversion codes to retrieve aerosol microphysical properties
- Compare retrieval results against independent measurements to identify capabilities and limitations of different data inversion approaches
- Collaborate with internal and external project team members for closure studies based on parallel in situ and remote sensing observations
- Write and contribute to high quality peer-reviewed publications on aerosol polarimetry
- The PhD degree will be received from ETH Zurich
Postdoc position on in-situ aerosol polarimetry (https://www.psi.ch/en/pa/job-opportunities/48832-postdoctoral-fellow):
- Support technical upgrade of polar nephelometer and validation in laboratory experiments
- Coordinate and perform laboratory and field experiments to determine phase functions and aerosol physical properties of well constrained and more complex atmospheric aerosols
- Collaborate with data scientist on development, assessment and application of machine learning based methods for solving the inverse problem posed by polarimetry
- Collaborate with internal and external project team members for closure studies based on parallel in situ and remote sensing observations
- Write and contribute to high quality peer-reviewed publications on aerosol polarimetry
