What are eLTER’s scope and goals?
The unique characteristic of eLTER RI is its Whole System Approach (Whole System Approach for In-situ research on Life Supporting systems, WAILS). eLTER enables research on the compounded impacts of multiple stressors on entire ecosystems in the long term, comprising the effects of short-term pulses (disturbances) and presses (long-term onset processes). This Whole System Approach drives the development of all aspects and components of the eLTER RI and, in turn, enables the integrated, cross-disciplinary research needed to find sustainable solutions for the Grand Societal Challenges:
