Site Registration and Cataloguing
Description
This service facilitates registering and publishing information on long-term observation facilities, their locations, and deployed sensors using a predefined model. It manages eLTER Research Infrastructure facilities (sites and platforms), enabling easy discovery and programmable data queries for information exchange.
Key features
- Registering and publishing information on long-term observation facilities, observation locations and deployed sensors, related network and infrastructure affiliation.
- Issuing a unique, persistent and resolvable identifier (e.g. DOI or PID) for each of the documented entities.
- Management of observation facilities in relation to the eLTER RI.
- Discovery interface to search and select observation facilities of interest for edit or export of information.
Site Legacy Data mobilisation
Description
This service aims at the mobilisation of legacy data (past observation of various variables not yet available on the platforms provided by the eLTER Data Access Service or not yet available online). This includes supporting data providers during the mobilisation process, but also providing different incentives for mobilisation of legacy data.
Key features
- Providing funding/reward scheme (allows site and platform coordinators to acquire budget/incentives for mobilising legacy data).
- Provide an interface (‘eLTER Market Place’) (links site and platform coordinators as data provider with research community as data requesters).
- Conduct legacy data mobilisation events (where SPCs can mobilise their data under the guidance of eLTERs data experts).
- Dedicated communication strategy (to find researchers to place calls and disseminate the information to data providers).
Site Information Cluster
Description
The service aims to provide visualization, metadata, dynamic retrieval, and distribution of third-party data, integrating existing external facilities, with a persistent ID system to identify eLTER-derived products.
Key features
- Visualisation of data (also connecting/exploiting similar existing facilities made available by third parties’ data providers).
- Provides metadata for third-party data sources, including information about access type (upon registration, against payment, licensing conditions), format, resolution etc.
- Provides tools for dynamic and programmatic retrieval of data - Distributes of third parties data upon request (on-demand).
- Persistent ID system for identification of eLTER-derived products.
Access to SO Data
Description
This service provides access to quality-assured, integrated data from eLTER sites for Standard Observations (SO) and related contextual data through dedicated and user-friendly interfaces that allow the user to explore available datasets and search according to specific filters.
Key features
- Enables access to quality assured (QC), integrated data from eLTER sites for Standard Observations (SO) and related contextual data (quality assurance codes on a central repository).
- Responsibility for raw data provision lies with national partners, publication of elaborated QC data products lies with eLTER (depending on decision on concept for TSA01_DM.03).
- Data standards including controlled vocabularies and metadata elements are provided by eLTER SO data.
- The service can be complemented by accessing legacy and long-term data where they are available across the site network.
Data ingestion and quality assurance
Description
This service enables and supports data providers with ingestion and registration of data with different quality levels (raw or pre-cleaned data) with the eLTER Research Infrastructure. These data will undergo central quality control and further processing to ensure FAIR services and optimal interaction with other eLTER services (e.g. modelling, data synthesis).
Key features
- Enables data providers to have raw (level 0) or pre-cleaned data (level 1) data registered with the eLTER Research Infrastructure.
- Data quality assurance is performed centrally with uniform criteria for the Standard Observations (level 2).
- eLTER will ensure an additional centralised data quality control during integration in eLTER data products - Ensuring FAIR data services and citation services.
- Ensuring seamless usage of data for modelling services and Virtual Access Scheme.
Data Usage Statistics
Description
This service allows data providers to find usage statistics for the data they have registered with the eLTER RI and any data products in which these data have been used. To assess the impact of eLTER data, usage statistics will mainly focus on citations rather than views or downloads.
Key features
- Tracking citations of data (objects) published by eLTER RI with a PID-system.
- Tracking data provenance to data source level (with PIDs).
- Tracking data usage (citations and quantitatively by downloaded files, downloaded PBs, and number of data users/institutions/countries etc.).
- Tracking or providing statistics about publicly available eLTER data (to compare with data usage statistics).
