eLTER Standard Observation Protocols: New Webinar Series for the Sites and Platforms Forum
As the ESFRI process of eLTER RI advances and central services are set up, actions are also needed on sites and platforms. Implementation of agreed Standard Observations is a central component in the transition towards a formalised research infrastructure with labelled eLTER Sites and eLTSER Platforms. To support this process, work on harmonised protocols has been progressing, and a dedicated series of Sites and Platforms Forum (SPF) webinars will provide a structured overview of the emerging framework.
The webinar series is designed to guide sites and platforms in preparing for the systematic measurement of standard observations. Each session will focus on one of the core spheres of the eLTER conceptual framework - Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, Geosphere and Socio-/Anthroposphere. The respective protocols will be presented in detail, accompanied by practical examples and experiences from operational sites. Each webinar will also allocate time for discussion, allowing participants to raise questions and clarify implementation aspects relevant to their local contexts.

Formalising eLTER RI entails that sites and platforms prepare to become officially designated eLTER Sites and eLTSER Platforms. The SPF webinar series aims to ensure transparency in expectations, foster mutual learning, and support the pathway towards implementation of Standard Observation.
The preliminary programme for the eLTER Standard Observation Protocols webinar series this spring is as follows:
Introduction – 3 March, 13:00–14:00 CET
Biosphere – 10 March, 15:00–16:00 CET
Atmosphere – end of March (TBC)
Geosphere – 14 April (13:00–14:00 CEST)
Socio-/Anthroposphere – end of April (TBC)
Hydrosphere – beginning of May (TBC)
The webinars are open to all, you can register at: https://elomake.helsinki.fi/lomakkeet/138965/lomake.html
