eLTER SPF webinar: COVID-19 impacts on communities, sites, and platforms

This SPF webinar will explore how the COVID-19 pandemic has shaped both our new reality at home and at work. Through case studies, discussions, and interactive activities, we will reflect on resilience attributes, site-specific impacts, and personal and professional experiences. Program:

  1. Examining socio-ecological system resilience attributes in the context of Covid-19 using participatory mental mapping, by Merav Cohen; Why were some communities better prepared for the COVID-19 pandemic than others? This presentation will share findings from a case study in the Changhua LTSER platform (Taiwan), where participatory mental mapping was used to identify resilience attributes such as flexibility, modularity, diversity, trust, and leadership. Results highlight both strengths (e.g. engaged local leadership, strong community ties) and vulnerabilities (e.g. economic reliance on tourism, limited monitoring data), offering insights for resilience theory, research, and policy.
  2. How Has COVID Impacted eLTER Sites and Platforms?, by Blaize Denfeld and Terhi Rasilo; In this presentation how Covid has impacted (both negative and positive) the eLTER SPCs will be addressed. A brief presentation will be given highlighting case studies focused on gender impacts as well as station specific impacts within Sweden. A discussion around these topics with input from the SPCs will follow.
  3. Q&A
  4. Interactivity: Sharing Perspectives on COVID-19 Impacts, chaired by Blaize Denfeld
